Women Grab The PVR Remote

According to a new study from Solutions Research Group, women are more likely to stream TV shows from network websites than men, and they are more likely to time-shift their TV viewing with a personal video recorder.

Digital video recording was known as a male domain, a technology that only can be used by intellectual geeks. But, in 2008 our female counterparts are ahead of men and they seem to use these technologies more frequently. Why?

The study shows us that these women are ahead of men in activities ranging from streaming on network TV websites, frequent DVR use and casual gaming. You can find them on social websites like Facebook and MySpace and it seems that these next-gen women are using technologies more and more for social goals.

Fifteen percent of the American online women streamed TV shows from network TV sites compared to 11% of men. Especially women with kids under age of six and English-speaking Hispanic women were the most active in this segment.

Secondly the study shows that women in DVR households are more enthusiastic about the recorders than men. These 'techy ladies' use their DVRs 9.3 times per week on average, compared to 8.3 times for men.

So, women are more likely to watch TV on a time-shifted basis, but why? I think we can find a solution in today's stereotypes. A few blogs already asked the researchers to seperate the 'men group', in 'sports-addicted' and 'not sports-addicted' groups, since they believe this will show that men still watch a lot of TV on a time-shifted basis.

Well, I believe this is right. Men are more likely to watch sports, which is more time sensitive than anything else. If the researchers seperate this group I think you will have another outcome... What do you think?
