These disc arrived a day later than expected due to a mix up with the carriers so most of the enthusiasts amongst you have already had time to buy and try a few. The discs are in cake boxes of 25 sealed with a tight strong shrink wrap. I had difficulty in removing this wrap as there was no easy tear strip and the wrapping being strong and tight. I had to use a knife to cut it off.
Once opened the top label that was the shape of a disc remained in the lid and there was the usual clear protective disc on top of the discs. There was no foam pad on top but the discs fitted the tub like a glove and it was not needed. The descriptive wrapper around the side of the discs was loosely fitted and not sealed into a circle as with previous wrappers. This made it much easier to remove and discard.
The discs are a light grey in colour with the standard Datawrite inscriptions - with the one noticeable difference - "8x DVD-R". Although this was in small print and I feel it could have been made to stand out more.
The discs have the FUJIFILM03 leadin code and this is the first time I believe that Datawrite have use this manufacturer.
I have done very little testing on Fuji media but I have always been a fan of their film and video recording tape. The dye is a dark colour with a purple tinge similar to the Ritek that we love but a darker colour.
I checked the disc for burning speed in my Pioneer 107 and it came up as 8x speed. My first test disc took just over 8 minutes for a full DVD and on examination of the burn it was even and I could clearly see the 6x – 8x changeover point. Playback in my Mustek was smooth with positive chapter skipping and no freezing. I checked playback in several of my other players with the same results.
The speed graph produced was perfect at my normal test speed and almost perfect at full read speed
The PI/PO jitter tests all came out very good and amongst the best I have tested.
Here is a speed read scan:

I have burnt and tested 20 of these discs now and all the test graphs are comparable with these.
Well what can I say but repeat myself again these are a good 8x speed disc at a budget price and I would highly recommend them.
Datawrite are excelling themselves with the Yellows and then these. If only they could make the colour more attractive!
