Datawrite Titanium 8X DVD-R CMCMAG AE1

Datawrite sent me samples of their latest 8x speed DVD-R media codenamed Titanium with the following MID code CMCMAG AE1

The disc is a gun metal grey in colour with the standard Datawrite Logo engraved upon it and apart from the colour it does not look any different any of the predecessors of Datawrite Classics. The sales hype claims that it is bomb proof & bullet proof well I AM NOT so I will not be testing out these claims but I can say the disc looks great with its gun metal finish and if it performs as well as previous grades I don’t care if it is bullet proof or not

The full mid code is as follows

I burnt several films with this media and tested the playback for compatibility they all played smoothly in my DVD players I burnt this media in the following drives PIONEER DVR-108, ,NEC ND-3500AG, Memorex DVD+/-DLRWL1 F16, LITEON SOHW1633S, TEAC DV-W516G, PLEXTOR PX-712SA

All my test drives were capable of burning at 8x speed to this media and as an added bonus I was able to burn at 12x speed with the Pioneer DVR-108 and an additional burn has been carried out with this drive

Here are the resultant graphs

PIONEER DVR-108 V1.14 burnt at 8X speed

A burn quality test in my BenQ drive

PI starting around 20 dropping to below 10 with a slight peak of 30 at the end of the scan. Not the lowest of readings but a good scan

Jitter remains well below 10% for the entire scan

Speed test in the Toshiba drive

This scan is good up to 4gig when it hesitates but the scan completed without errors

PIONEER DVR-108 V burnt at 12X speed

A burn quality test in my BenQ drive

A similar scan to the 8x speed burn but a better scan at the finish

Jitter is below 10% at the start rising to 10% as the speed of the burn increases

Speed test in the Toshiba drive

Speed test is good and better than the 8X speed burn

NEC ND-3500AG burnt at 8X speed

Burn quality as tested in the BenQ drive

A good scan here starting at about 10 and remaining under 10 most of the disc ending with a peak of well under 20

Jitter peaks slightly at around 500meg but it smooths out to an average of less than 10%

Speed test in the Toshiba drive

This scan shows an almost perfect graph again What more can I say?

MEMOREX DVD+/-DLRWL1 F16 vBWSE burnt at at 8X Speed

Burn quality as tested in the BenQ drive

PI starting around 40 reducing to below 10 but a large increase around the 2gig speed transition point peaking around 80. A disappointing scan but not one that will have any detrimental effect on playback

Jitter starts off below 10% ands jumps to 10% at the same transition point

Speed test in the Toshiba drive

This scan shows a good graph. with only a minor dip at the edge

LITEON SOHW1633S burnt at at 8x Speed

Burn quality as tested in the BenQ drive

Slight peak of only 15 at the start with a dip to under 10 with a final peak of about 25, A good result for the Liteon

Jitter % is very low starting at about 8% and remaining below 10 % throughout the scan

Speed test in the Toshiba drive

Just a couple of dips towards the outer edge

TEAC DV-W516G burnt at 8x Speed

Burn quality as tested in the BenQ drive

Very similar graph here to the Liteon, just peaking a little higher resulting in a higher scale.

Jitter remains constant way under 10%

PIF is slightly high after the 4gig point

Speed test in the Toshiba drive

Some deep dips at the outer edge but readable throughout, this coincides with the high PIF in this area

PLEXTOR PX-712SA burnt at 8x Speed

Burn quality as tested in the BenQ drive

Although this graph looks to fill the scale the results are so good that the scale of the graph remained at minimum peak of 10 giving an overhaul graph of less than 10. Indeed a remarkable result.

Jitter % is also remarkably low averaging 7.5%

With this drive & media I could not wish for a better result

/tr>

Speed test in the Toshiba drive

As good as it gets

Although the PI errors are higher on some drives than previously tested media the results with the Liteon manufactured drives are a lot better than most and the result with the Plextor could not be better. All the burns produced discs that played back OK over a wide range of DVD players without pausing or freezing. The PIF is generally low and is negligible with the overall jitter readings being very low at below 10% for most of the time.

This is a good all-round disc that produces good results over a wide range of DVD burners and works well in the low end Liteon range and excellent in the top end burners such as the Pioneer and the NEC, with the ability to burn 12x on the Pioneer is an unexpected bonus.
The results in the Plextor burner are superb
